At Merlyn power, we have been installing residential solar PV arrays since 2003. That’s why we know that a solar installation must not only fulfill our customers’ need for power production and reliability, it also has to look great on your home. If you’ve been considering solar, you probably have found your eyes drawn to roofs all around the city towards some great looking solar arrays, and some not-so-great arrays. Our customers expect their installations to look great. That’s why every system is designed in consultation with Merlyn founder and solar veteran Scott Cooper to achieve a look that will perform well, and will be harmonious with the look of your home.
This is how we make sure your solar installation will be the envy of the neighbourhood:
Designed for Balance, Symmetry, and Modesty
Every Merlyn installation begins with a consultation to determine your energy needs. We look at your energy consumption throughout the year, we look at the size, shape, and orientation of your roof, and we consider your budget. Then we design a system that will balance your energy needs with the available space for panels. Every roof is different, but most customers expect a system that looks balanced, symmetrical, and doesn’t have panels scattered all over the place. We will give you the best option to meet your needs with an array that looks right. And if you’re not happy, we can tweak the design until you love what you see.

Hidden wiring
Solar panels have to connect to an inverter and to your home’s electrical panel with wires. There’s no getting around it. These wires typically travel from the roof down to the ground on the outside of your home through an electrical conduit, or inside your home directly through your attic. At Merlyn power, we take special care to make sure the wiring is as discrete as possible. Wherever practical, we will run the wires directly into your home’s attic and down to the soffit giving the array a “wireless” appearance. When using electrical conduit, our expert installers will make sure the wiring is in the most discrete location possible to keep unsightly wires out of sight. We always go the extra mile to make sure your new solar PV system does not detract from the beauty and symmetry of your home.

The small details that count
Over our more than 20 years of installing solar PV systems for residential customers, we have picked up a few tricks to make your solar array blend in and look great. Many of these are standard features on all our systems, such as all-black panels, mounting hardware, and critter guard to make your array disappear against the colour of the roof it’s sitting on. We consult with customers and listen to any concerns you might have about the look of your solar PV system, then we make sure the you’re getting the look you want. We can install an optional end-trim to hide rail-ends for an extra clean look. And where it really counts we will do whatever is needed to hide the wiring so you don’t have an unsightly electrical conduit distracting from the beauty of your home.
